Paintings
I use earths I source from the places I intend to paint and make mortars with them. From rocks to river sands, all are painting materials and I respond to their qualities and colours.
It’s important to me that each work carries a piece of the place it represents.
I was born in Spain, living in Granada’s coast during my first 18 years.
From then on I lived in other countries but now I am based in Edinburgh, where I have my wee family.
I’m adopted and without knowledge of my biological family. This influences my work in my choice of elements, I work with earths perhaps because it nicely grounds my energy and emotions.
My practice is an ongoing conversation with materials that I mainly source from nature. Responding to their qualities and colours, I layer, erode, polish and build up the surface, in a process of creation and destruction aiming to echo the geological forces that shape a landscape. Each piece takes a very long time to be completed.
The resulting works are immediate, tactile, weighty objects sometimes inspired by the abstract patterns found in nature.
