VENUE 27 - Carmen Carmeli SSA, 14 Lady Menzies Place
Paintings: Earths, Quartz & Pigments
Carmen Carmeli SSA gathers earth pigments sourced primarily from nature—rocks, soils, and river sands become the foundation of her handmade mortars and painting materials. Her work is an ongoing dialogue with these elements, resulting in landscapes and abstracted patterns that reflect the textures and rhythms of the natural world.
Born in Spain and based in Scotland for the past 25 years, Carmen and her family migrate between the two countries each year—like a small nomadic tribe. Her daily practice includes experimenting with mortars and materials in both homes: painting in Scotland, and restoring a Moorish ruin in Spain.
