VENUE 26 - Carmen Carmeli, 14 Lady Menzies Place

Paintings: Water, Memory & Identity

Carmen Carmeli's current series explores how water carries both life and stories within its flow. Just as the land carries rivers, she sees us as vessels of water too; our DNA, like a riverbed, holds the imprint of our ancestors, shaping who we are.

Through this work, Carmen reflects on the profound connection between the marks water leaves upon the landscape and the traces we leave for future generations, both in the earth and within ourselves.

Each painting captures a moment of arrival: water seeking a larger body, migrating from individual streams into a collective vastness. Whether rushing with the weight of multiple currents or slipping silently across a threshold, these waters represent the journey of the self. For Carmen, rivers do not merely surround us—they flow within us, continuously rewriting who we are.
